Beware Concerning Ourselves
"The Lord promises great, eternal blessings to His righteous, repentant children, but knowing there is great danger here in this life, He has commanded us, saying, 'Beware concerning yourselves, to give diligent heed to the words of eternal life' (D&C 84:43). Because He loves us and wants us back, this commandment to 'beware concerning [ourselves]' prompts us to be careful concerning everything about us--the type of social settings we enter, what we see and read, the media and entertainment we choose, the music we listen to, and more."
John B. Dickson, "Commitment to the Lord," Ensign, May 2007, 14 15
This is from the Daily Gems.....and it hit a note as I thought about the music lately that has graced our house and if it is uplifting. Now mind you, it is mostly country, but even some of those songs (mainly Kid Rocks new catchy little diddy.) can by a bit...well you know.....and a few minutes when the kids think they can turn on the rap crap and think that I won't notice how does that affect how we act towards each other let alone what happens to the spirit. Just a thought.

I really struggle with that, and you know how I love my rough music. Well I put the conference cd's in the car and listen to those probably 80% of the time, and it has made a big difference with me, and my temper/attitude. I cannot listen to country when Pres is gone....too sad, and makes me think too much. Plus country can talk about some scary things too, as does rap :) Country just does it in a softer way, so you don't even realize what the song is saying.
