Best Bread ever!

BRAIDED SCARBOROUGH FAIR BREAD – Alicia

Makes 2 loaves

4 to 6 Cups Flour 1/3 Cup onion flakes

2 pkg. dry yeast 1 Cup Milk

3 Tbls. Sugar 1 Cup Water

1 Tbls. Salt 1/ 4 Cup butter

1/4 Cups parsley Flakes 2 eggs (beaten)

1 tsp. Rosemary Leaves (crumbled) 1 Tbls. Milk

1 tsp. Thyme Leaves (crumbled)

1/3 Cup sesame seeds

In a large bowl combine 2 cups of flour, yeast, sugar, salt, parsley flakes,

Rosemary and thyme. In a medium saucepan combine onion flakes, the

1 cup milk, 1 cup water and the butter. Heat just until warm (butter does not need to melt). Add all but 2 Tbls. of the eggs and beat well. Add batter to dry mixture. Beat on Hi speed for 2 minutes. Mix in remaining flour just enough to make a soft dough adding flour ½ cup at a time. IMPORTANT – dough should not be stiff, it should be almost sticky.

Knead for about 5 minutes. Place in a bowl sprayed with pam. Cover and let rise until double in bulk (about an hour). Punch down and knead lightly & divide into two pieces. Cut each half into 3 equal parts. With hands roll each part into a roll about 12” long. Place 3 rolls on a greased baking sheet. (9x 13 works well for the two loaves of bread. Pinch ends together on one end and braid the rolls gently & loosely. Do not stretch. Pinch edges together at the other end. Repeat to make the second braid.

Cover and let rise in a warm place about 40” or until double. Mix reserved egg mixture with 2 Tbls. Milk and brush braids with the mixture. Sprinkle with the sesame seeds. Bake in preheated oven for 40 min. (350 degree oven). Baking time turns bread too brown sometimes so cover the bread with tin foil when light brown and/or try heat at 325. These are great looking loaves of bread and very tasty.

Enjoy!

My good neighbor and wonderful friend is a terrific cook and she has given me some of the best recipes! My kids scarf hers up and will even ask her to make some of their favorites! I included my favorite, that we have been living on every Sunday! It is great dipped in soup or just oil and balsamic vinegar! Happy Eating!
